Mesa, AZ - As temperatures begin to hit triple digits, eligible Mesa residents can get financial assistance with summer air conditioning bills. Residents can apply to save $40 through the City of Mesa's Summer Electric Assistance (SEA) program. The Energy Resources Department is accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis for residential customers who demonstrate a financial need.

The SEA program is available to current City of Mesa residential electric customers whose total household income is less than $27,000 per year. The program eliminates Mesa's monthly service and usage charges for the first 80 kilowatt hours to help customers in need with higher bills for electricity used in June, July and August. At current rates, participants can expect to save up to $13 on their July, August and September bills.

Applications will be accepted through Aug. 15.

For more information, visit www.mesaaz.gov/sea or contact Energy Resources Management Assistant Scott Clapp at (480) 644-6907 or scott.clapp@mesaaz.gov.

Mesa residents who have Salt River Project as their utility provider can also take advantage of monthly discounts for low-income households through SRP's Economy Price Plan. For example, a family of four that earns $3,075 or less per month would be eligible. Approved SRP customers can receive a monthly discount of $20 from November to April and $21 from May to October, totaling a savings of $246 a year. To learn about eligibility, visit www.srpnet.com/economy or call (602) 236-8888 to enroll for immediate discounts.
