Earth Day, yo-yos and a fashion show at Celebrate Mesa

Mesa's free party in the park will celebrate Earth Day, offer an environmentally friendly fashion show, and feature yo-yo's, live music and many fun, family activities. Celebrate Mesa is being held Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 526 E. Main St.

The event celebrates Earth Day with several activities including a Living Green Village where you can learn about solar energy, solar cooking, gardening, composting, tree care, energy and water conservation and recycling. You can take a restful moment to listen to special Earth Day stories told by Mother Nature!

In keeping with the Earth Day theme, students from East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) will be modeling zero-waste garments, accessories and shoes during EVIT's Zero-Waste-Wear Fashion Show.

Celebrate Mesa also has carnival games, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a mobile escape room, a tot spot toddler area, bounce houses, superheroes, live entertainment and so much more. Entertainment will include internationally acclaimed yo-yo performer Julius, founder of All YoYo, and live music from Freddie Duran Plan. Arizona Feastivals will be on site all day with food trucks. Mesa Farmers Market and Flea has shifted their normal morning hours and will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to be part of the fun.

City departments will have booths with information and fun, interactive activities for children. The Mesa Police Air Unit and a Mesa Fire and Medical Department medical vehicle will be on display..

Admission and parking are free but there is a $5 fee for unlimited access to the carnival rides including Meltdown, a Ferris Wheel and a rock climbing wall.

Celebrate Mesa also celebrates the state-of-the-art Pioneer Park which includes a huge multi-story playground and a splash pad with a 15-foot-high water wall that is the first of its kind in Arizona. The 9,000-square foot playground is designed to feel like you are playing in the trees.

Raffle prizes will be given away throughout the event including Razor Scooters, a Bashas gift card and family passes to FatCats.
