District 3 Councilmember Francisco Heredia has been selected as one of 15 leaders from across the United States to join the NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a selective national network of rising state and local elected officials. Members of the network are working to enact pro-growth progressive solutions in a diverse array of communities. The 15 new members brings the total number of NewDEAL members to 181 from 47 different states.

"As we continue to build on our progress on economic development and workforce training in Mesa, I look forward to sharing the lessons we have learned and hearing from other leaders who are setting the standard for effective governance," Councilmember Heredia said. "I'm excited to be a part of this new class and to work with them on NewDEAL's efforts to expand opportunity in communities nationwide."

The NewDEAL is a national network of rising state and local elected leaders who are pro-growth progressives. Their mission is to bring together leaders focused on expanding opportunity and to help them develop and spread innovative ideas to spur economic growth that is broadly-earned and sustainable. They connect the NewDEAL Leaders with each other to exchange ideas, and connect them with other pro-growth progressive political, policy and private sector leaders.

Since joining the Mesa City Council in 2017, Councilmember Heredia has been committed to improving the lives of Mesa residents by promoting Smart City initiatives that support economic growth and establish a stronger tech and manufacturing industry for the City of Mesa, while also leading efforts to improve education opportunities for students. He was selected to join NewDEAL in part because of these efforts and for recognizing opportunities, like through better workforce development strategies that close the skills gap, to make Mesa a more attractive place to work, live and raise a family.
