The Aug. 21 total solar eclipse will be exciting but can be dangerous if you do not know how to enjoy the event in comfort and safety. Steve Kates, better known as Dr. Sky(R) from his radio show, will present a solar eclipse safety program Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. at Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road.
The 90-minute program, which is free, is open to adults and children. It will cover the safe ways to observe and enjoy this amazing sight in nature. Registration is not required.
The total solar eclipse that will be seen over North America Aug. 21 will be the first in the United States since 1979. Most of the continent will see a partial eclipse, with Arizona seeing 70 percent of it. Even a partial eclipse brings the potential of danger and requires safety precautions.
Dr. Sky(R), who has appeared on numerous local and national radio and television programs, has been engaged in the science of astronomy for more than 30 years and continues to promote his love of the night sky and aviation/space science topics.
