Professionals needed for Mesa's Building Board of Appeals

June 30, 2020 at 10:32 am

Are you an electrical or mechanical engineer or contractor? Do you have experience in fire prevention? If so, the City of Mesa wants you to apply to be a member of the Building Board of Appeals.

Mesa residents are invited to participate in the process of City of Mesa government by serving on the City's advisory boards and committees. Through this service, civic-minded citizens make recommendations to the Mesa City Council. The City, in turn, benefits from the knowledge, experience and expertise of citizens.

Each June, as board and committee members end their terms, new members are needed to take their places. All appointments to the boards are recommended by the Mayor and are approved by the City Council.

The Building Board of Appeals hears appeals to determinations made by the Building Safety Director and/or the Fire Marshal, decides on reasonable interpretations of the Building Regulations and Chapter 2 of the Fire Regulations, determines the suitability of alternate materials and alternate methods of construction, and recommends changes to the various building and fire codes. The board currently has openings that require specific professional experience.

The positions include:
o Plumbing or mechanical contractor or mechanical engineer
o Electrical contractor or engineer
o Experience in firefighting techniques, fire protection services or fire protection engineer

The Building Board of Appeals meets as needed. For more information about boards and committees and to apply go to www.mesaaz.gov/boards.
