The City of Mesa is partnering with United Food Bank for the Great Turkey Tuesday, Nov. 16 at the Mesa Convention Center, 263 N Center St., from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. The goal is to collect 1,500 turkeys and $10,000 in cash donations to help the less fortunate this holiday season.
"Turkey Tuesday is a great way to kick off the season of gratitude, and I have no doubt Mesa residents and businesses will extend their generosity in helping to reach this year's collection goal," said Mayor John Giles.
Come and leave your turkey at the United Food Bank truck. In addition to turkeys, City employees will also be collecting canned goods and cash donations to benefit United Food Bank. Monetary donations can also be made online at www.feedaz.org. Every $25 raised provides a turkey for a family in need. Desert Financial Credit Union will be matching the number of turkeys donated during the event and will also be donating $50,000 to United Food Bank.
Last year, the goal was to collect 1,700 turkeys and $8000 in donations. Mesa exceeded its Turkey Tuesday goal with more than 1,800 turkeys and $11,800 in donations thanks to the generous contributions of residents, business owners, contractors, City of Mesa departments, Councilmembers and others.
"Mesa's Great Turkey Tuesday event will provide a nutritious holiday meal to struggling families in our communities. Each turkey donated and distributed for Thanksgiving is a blessing for the recipient family or individual and offers hope for a brighter year ahead," said United Food Bank CEO Dave Richins.
Great Turkey Tuesday is a collaboration between the City of Mesa and United Food Bank.
