Mayor John Giles of Mesa today honored Team USA Olympic athlete and professional skateboarder Jagger Eaton with a key to the city at Kids that Rip (KTR), a skatepark owned and operated by the Eaton family.
"Jagger is an amazing young athlete with a bright future in skateboarding and we are so proud of his accomplishments and connection to the City of Mesa," said Mesa Mayor John Giles. "Not only is he setting records and breaking ground as an exceptionally talented athlete, but he is also setting a great example of commitment and determination for young people worldwide."
In 2012 Jagger set a record for being the youngest ever X Games competitor at age 11, and in 2021 he became the first American to medal in skateboarding at the Olympics, receiving the bronze medal in Men's Skateboard Street in Tokyo. Now at the age of 21, Jagger is supported by Red Bull and has received numerous accolades in his sport.
"It's an honor to receive the key to the City of Mesa. This is where I grew up and where my love for skateboarding first began," said Jagger. "It's where I learned the values of hard work and have pushed myself to achieve my dreams. I've been all around the world, from Mesa to Tokyo, and there's nothing like being able to come home and be with the people I love. I wouldn't be where I am today without the love and support of my family, friends, and the community of Mesa."
Kids that Rip is located at 1927 N. Gilbert Road in Mesa.
