The City of Mesa will be holding an online public meeting with Mesa residents to discuss a new library for southeast Mesa. The Southeast Mesa Library will be located Near Ray and Ellsworth at 5036 S. Eastmark Parkway.
"District 6 has been missing a crucial part of our community since the storm that devastated our East Mesa Express Library. The City has tried for years to find a home for this hub of knowledge, education and information, and because of the citizens and the overwhelming approval of our last bond, we have found that home. It will be right in the center of our District, in Eastmark, where it will benefit residents of all age groups for years to come" said Kevin Thompson, Councilmember for District 6. "I would like to thank the citizens of Mesa for their support and commitment to our community!" he continued.
This full-service library will have similar amenities to the Main, Red Mountain and Dobson Ranch libraries. The library will provide services for residents of all ages with using technology to streamline services.
Mesa invites residents to register and attend the live online public meeting on Thursday, April 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A short presentation will be given followed by a question and comment session to gather input on the new library's design. To register, visit www.mesaaz.gov/engineering.
"We are excited to share our vision for Mesa's newest library and to get feedback from the public. We want the Southeast library to be a place for residents to engage with innovative library services, as well as a welcoming space where the community can connect." said Polly Bonnett, Library Director.
The project will cost approximately $16.8 million, funded by a General Obligation Bond approved by Mesa voters in 2018. The Southeast Mesa Library is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.
