Mesa is celebrating the grand opening of the Lehi Sports Park, 2228 N. Center St., Saturday, Jan. 21 at 9 a.m. The public event will include a brief program, a ceremonial "goal kick" and kids playing soccer.
"The parks and community facilities in Mesa are second to none, and the new fields at Lehi Sports Park will be well-loved," said Mayor John Giles. "I appreciate the voters approving the bond that helped make this park a reality, for supporting the City of Mesa's investment in the livability of our community."
The Lehi Sports Park features five multi-sports fields that will primarily be used for soccer with a donated MuscoVision Camera between fields 1 and 2 for live video streaming through an app at https://www.muscovision.com/facility/44806. Lehi is the first sports field in the valley to use MuscoVision. The sports fields have LED-lighting with minimal light spill outside the park boundary, although lights will only be on when fields are in play. The fields are available for use by reservation only.
"I care deeply about this City and its public spaces," said Councilmember Mark Freeman. "This inviting, well-equipped space will be a place for Mesa residents to gather with their families and friends to play, watch and enjoy soccer games and other sporting events alike."
The City of Mesa acquired property along Center Street in 2002 and the remaining parcels for the sports fields in 2019. The City also bought a vacant 2.3-acre parcel northeast of the park that is slated for future development.
"Lehi Sports Park is a great addition to the City and I applaud the effort and care our Parks and Recreation staff takes for all of our parks, community facilities and recreational programs," said Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chair Jacob Martinez. "I greatly appreciate that they included input from Lehi residents to create a top-notch facility for our kids to enjoy."
Funding for Lehi Sports Park is from the 2018 General Obligation Bond approved by voters and a grant from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
