National Read An E-Book Week, March 3-9, encourages the use of e-book platforms, offering easy access for readers to enjoy books on portable devices. It's a reminder that Mesa Public Library cardholders can easily reserve books, access digital resources and download content to their laptops, tablets and phones with just a library card number and PIN.

E-books offer numerous advantages:

Portable: You can carry thousands of books on one device, saving space

Access: You can download anytime 24/7 whether you are home or standing in line

Environmentally friendly: E-books save trees and don't require postage or packing to ship

Privacy: You can read without advertising it to others

Added features: Many e-books have built in dictionaries and highlighter/passage bookmark features

ADA accessibility: Most e-book apps allow users to customize screen brightness and text setting. The Libby app has the OpenDyslexic font to assist dyslexic readers

"We know many of our patrons love e-books and audiobooks, and Mesa Public Library offers access to thousands of them through our e-card and several apps," said Polly Bonnett, Mesa Library Director.

The Mesa Library launched a new e-Card option in February 2023, giving users instant access to e-books, audiobooks, online courses and more. E-cards can be upgraded to a full-access card at any time.

Libby is the most popular app at Mesa Public Library with the most extensive collection of downloadable books, audiobooks, magazines and videos. Libby has more than 297-thousand items. Other apps include cloudLibrary, IVOX for children ages 3-8, TumbleBooks for young children and school-aged kids and TeenBook Cloud for middle school students and teenagers.

Anyone living in Maricopa County for at least 30 consecutive days a year, works, owns property or attends school within the county is eligible for a free Mesa Public Library card. To learn more about card options and sign up for an e-card, visit mesalibrary.org/getacard.
