Hazardous materials don't belong in trash cans or recycle barrels. Mesa is making it even easier for residents to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste by extending operating hours at the Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Facility, located at 2412 N. Center St. Starting July 3, the facility will be open from Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The HHM facility accepts a variety of hazardous materials, including:
Fireworks
Paints and solvents
Automotive fluids
Household cleaners
Pesticides and fertilizers
Batteries
Electronics
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the extended hours to dispose of these items safely. Improper disposal of hazardous items can cause fires in collection vehicles or at waste facilities and pose additional environmental health risks.
"The extended hours are a direct response to community feedback," said Solid Waste Director, Sheri Collins. "We recognize the need for more flexible drop-off times and are pleased to provide additional hours of service."
Please note that the Household Hazardous Materials facility will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 5. For more information on the Household Hazardous Materials Facility and acceptable items, please visit mesaaz.gov/hhm.
