The City of Mesa was recently recognized as a 2024 Global JustServe City at the National League of Cities conference in Tampa, Florida. The Global JustServe City award highlights cities across the world who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to volunteerism by encouraging volunteerism, creating volunteer opportunities and recognizing local volunteers in the community. Mesa is one of five cities to receive the designation this year. Other cities recognized include Boise, Nampa and Meridian Idaho, and Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada.
Sara Anderson, JustServe Outreach Specialist in Mesa, presented the award locally to Mesa Mayor John Giles and members of the City Council at a recent city council meeting. She credited the award to their vision, commitment to volunteerism and example of regularly volunteering alongside other residents in Mesa.
In addition, Anderson said the reason "volunteerism thrives here in Mesa is the thousands of volunteers who reach out and lend a hand to their neighbors throughout the year. Our city is safer, more beautiful, more welcoming, more resilient, more united, and a better place to live because of them."
"Volunteerism is a great cornerstone of our great city and we're grateful for the of Mesa residents who selflessly give their time and talents to make our city stronger," said Mayor Giles "This is a very meaningful award and [an honor] to be recognized in this way."
