The City of Mesa is making it easier for small businesses to go green and showcase their commitment to sustainability through its Green Business Certification Program. This simple, self-guided program offers hands-on consultation and practical strategies to help businesses reduce their environmental impact while saving money through eco-friendly practices like conserving water and energy.
"All businesses in Mesa, no matter the size, can benefit from investing in sustainable practices," said Scott Bouchie, Environmental and Sustainability Department Director. "For small businesses, where profit margins can be tight, even modest savings on energy and water costs can add up significantly over time."
To educate and recruit local businesses, the City of Mesa, in partnership with Local First Arizona, is hosting an informational workshop on the benefits of green certification. Attendees will learn how reducing waste leads to greater savings, how environmental responsibility strengthens customer loyalty and what incentives and funding options are available for operational or building upgrades.
"We are excited to partner with Mesa to showcase the Green Business Certification Program and guide businesses through the certification process in this workshop," said Nick Shivka, Senior Manager of Sustainable Initiatives "Earning green certification empowers businesses to cut costs, minimize their environmental impact and enhance their community presence. Its a win-win for the city and the business."
The free event will take place on Thursday, March 6, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Mesa Business Builder @ The Studios (second floor), 59 E. 1st St. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Attendees can enjoy sandwiches and refreshments from one of Mesas Green Certified businesses and will have a chance to win raffle prizes designed to help businesses save money.
