The City of Mesa honors its volunteers and their many contributions with an unveiling of new banners along Main Street downtown that are being displayed during National Volunteer Week.
"Our City of Mesa volunteers make our community stronger and more connected. In 2024, more than 12,400 individuals gave their time, energy and talents to serve others," said Mayor Mark Freeman. "We appreciate their contributions, and their dedication touches every corner of our City."
In 2024, City of Mesa volunteers contributed more than 119,000 hours of work, saving the city a total of $3,985,310.
As a JustServe City, Mesa is honoring Joanne and Paul Brenner, two of its most dedicated volunteers, with the JustServe Hero Award for service for their efforts in the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to volunteering and have made a significant impact in their community.
"The Brenners are the embodiment of what it means to be a Connector with the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. They lead by example, creating Connectors who always serve Mesa with Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (CARE)," said Bethany Freeland, Fire and Safety Life Education Specialist with Mesa Fire and Medical.
The awards were presented this morning during a brief program along Main Street downtown near the City of Mesa mural. Mayor Freeman issued a proclamation in honor of National Volunteer Week. Brand new National Volunteer Week banners were unveiled for display throughout the week, highlighting various volunteer programs and testimonials.
The City has an online system to search for volunteer opportunities based on area of interest, length of time commitment and more. You can access it at mesaaz.gov/volunteer.
