Mesa City Council moves to make a major investment in both public safety and core services with the approval of a $2.79 billion budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year at tonight's Council meeting.
"This is a significant budget as we move forward in a tremendous, historic way to provide enhanced services to the City," said City Manager Scott Butler. "The budget focuses on public safety, quality service and investment in neighborhoods. This budget demonstrates our commitment to providing quality core services in a fiscally responsible manner."
Highlights of the new budget include:
- Building two new fire stations: Station 223 (Lehi) and Station 224 (Hawes Crossing)
- The Northeast Public Safety Facility, which is opening soon and includes a police substation, the first new substation since 2005, and Fire Station 222
- Expanding the Real Time Crime Center to 24-hour coverage by adding a police sergeant and management assistant
- Continued support for Mesa Fire and Medical Department sworn personnel cancer screenings
- Additional ambulances for the Transport Services program
- Gateway Library, the first full-service library built in Mesa since 1995
- Eastmark Great Park, Phase 5
- Five new utility locator positions for Energy Resources
When Fire Stations 223 and 224 are completed, the City will have added eight new fire stations in 20 years. Mesa will hire more public safety personnel for the new Mesa Fire and Medical facilities, reducing emergency response times.
The new budget takes effect July 1, at the start of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. More information about the budget is available on the City of Mesa website.
