Mekong Plaza, a cornerstone of the Asian District Mesa, AZ and a regional destination for authentic Asian cuisine, groceries, and retail, has expanded with a $10 million capital investment, adding 32,000 square feet of new space and approximately 200 jobs.
"Mesa is proud to see the continued growth and success of Mekong Plaza in our Asian District," said Mayor Mark Freeman. "This expansion demonstrates the hard work, entrepreneurship, and the strong community partnerships that keep Mesa a great place to live, work, and raise a family."
The Mekong Plaza expansion introduces 12 new businesses, headlined by the crown jewel restaurant Haidilao Hot Pot, one of the world's most recognized traditional Chinese hot pot dining brands, and Udon Shin, the renowned Tokyo-based udon restaurant making its U.S. debut in Mesa. These additions will further strengthen the Plaza's reputation as a premier culinary and cultural destination in Greater Phoenix and beyond.
"The Asian District continues to thrive as a cultural and economic destination in Mesa, and the Mekong Plaza expansion reinforces that momentum," said District 3 Councilmember Francisco Heredia. "This project strengthens our local economy, provides new opportunities for small businesses, and celebrates the vibrant diversity that defines our community."
Currently spanning more than 100,000 square feet, Mekong Plaza serves as a cultural anchor in Mesa's Asian District, which stretches along Dobson Road and Main Street. The District draws visitors from across Arizona and beyond, offering a dynamic mix of authentic restaurants, markets, and specialty retailers that highlight the rich diversity of Asian cultures represented.
Peter Quach, developer of Mekong Plaza and one of the original visionaries behind Asian District Mesa, AZ, shared his excitement about the next chapter of growth. "When we first opened Mekong Plaza, our goal was to create a place where people could experience Asian culture through food, shopping, and community," said Quach. "It's rewarding to see how much the District has grown and how Mesa has embraced this vision."
"The expanded plaza will help attract investment and activity to the district, creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and highlighting the area's reputation as a center for international cuisine and cultural experiences," said Jaye O'Donnell, Director of the City of Mesa Office of Economic Development.
