Mesa Opens Cooling Centers to Offer Heat Relief

March 19, 2026 at 10:50 am

Because of the extreme heat that is creating multi-day record breaking temperatures, the City of Mesa, in collaboration with local community partners, has coordinated the activation of local Cooling Centers. The following Cooling Centers will offer access to water and a safe air conditioned space to get out of the elements.:

•Terros Health (Stapley Health Center - Primary Care)
1111 S. Stapley Drive
Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday - Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

•Friends at First
15 E. 1st Ave. (Outreach Center)
Monday and Thursday 12 pm. to 3 p.m.

•A New Leaf (MesaCAN)
635 E. Broadway
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To help prevent heat-related illnesses and protect vulnerable populations, temporary cooling centers are open and available to the public while the Emergency Heat Warning remains in effect through Sunday, March 22.

While the typical heat safety season runs from May through September, precautions are being implemented early due to current conditions.

"The City and our community partners know how critical it is to provide heat relief services to our most vulnerable residents, even when triple digit temperatures arrive several weeks earlier than normal," said Mayor Mark Freeman. "It's also a good time to remind yourself to check on neighbors and family and friends who may be homebound to make sure they are safe and staying cool."

The City also has five Hydration Stations, provided by Mesa Water Resources, open year-round where people can fill their reusable water bottles as often as they need to:

•Mesa Arts Center North Studios Building
1 E. Main St.
Tuesday - Friday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

•Mesa Main Library (west side of the building exterior)
64 E. First St.
Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

•Mesa Red Mountain Library
635 N. Power Road
Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

•Paz de Cristo (front gate)
424 W. Broadway Road
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

•Pioneer Park
526 E. Main St.

The City of Mesa offers numerous heat safety resources online including a heat safety webinar produced by the Community Engagement Team featuring experts from Mesa Fire and Medical and Human Services, plus severe weather preparation and limited income assistance programs.
