The City of Mesa Public Safety Support Department's (MPSS) Forensic Services Division has been awarded a $473,881 DUI Abatement Innovative Program Grant from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety. This funding is from the Oversight Council on Driving or Operating Under the Influence Abatement.
The grant will fund the purchase of instrumentation and supplies to modernize the Division's DUI blood drug screening process, improving operational efficiency and reducing reliance on supplies from sole-source vendors.
The grant-funded improvements will directly enhance DUI and drug-impaired driving (DUID) enforcement by reducing case turnaround times from approximately 8-10 months to 4-5 months. Faster processing will improve the timeliness of toxicological results provided to law enforcement and prosecutors, supporting more efficient impaired-driving investigations and prosecutions.
By increasing analytical capacity, improving operational efficiency and ensuring continuity of testing, the project will strengthen the MPSS Forensic Services Division's ability to provide timely and reliable forensic toxicology services in support of impaired-driving investigations.
The City of Mesa Public Safety Support Department (MPSS) consists of 911 communications and Forensic Services - providing essential services and resources to support the Mesa Police and Fire & Medical Departments in keeping the community safe.
