Mesa City Council has issued a Notice of Intent to adjust utility rates, beginning a 60-day period for residents and businesses to review the proposal and share their feedback. Under the Council's proposal, most Mesa households would see an increase of less than $6 per month on their utility bills. Mesa reviews utility rates every year as part of its ongoing fiscal management.
This annual process allows the City to make smaller, predictable adjustments instead of large, sudden increases. By planning ahead, Mesa ensures its utilities remain reliable and affordable while continuing to meet the needs of a growing community.
With the proposed adjustments, Mesa continues to compare favorably with other Valley cities on overall costs to a typical homeowner. The City's FY 2026-27 comparison of property taxes, city sales tax, solid waste, water and wastewater costs ranks Mesa third-lowest among the Valley cities compared.
The City's approach is guided by principles of fairness and responsibility. That includes keeping rate changes steady over time, maintaining healthy reserve funds and making sure residential and non-residential customers share costs equitably.
The Council is expected to consider the adjustments in December, with a final vote scheduled for Dec. 8. If approved, the new rates would take effect Feb. 1, 2027. Residents are encouraged to learn more and provide input during the 60-day comment period.
